Hey I am in Hiro's Japanese 120 class and he wanted us to post a question on your blog but i didnt know where to put it so ill ask it in here. What is something you have done in Japan that you would never be able to do in the US?

Jacob-

I am in Hiro's 110 class. I remember you saying that you have been taking martial arts while you are in Japan. What other sports are most popular in Japan.

One of the tutors, Yoriku said she practices stick fighting.

Thanks again.

Hi i'm Megan. I am in Hiro's japanese 110 class. I was wanting to know how serious is physical fitness to the people over in Japan?

One thing ive done in Japan that I couldnt do in the US is buy beer at the super market and drink before i walk home. Drinking in public, just walking around is completely legal here.

There are so many clubs and activities here. There are soccer, baseball, basketball, archery, aikedo, aiedo, kendo, and so many more clubs here.

Im sure how serious they are about physical fitness, but i can tell you there are very very few fat people in japan. Everyone does some sort of sport or activity. They walk or ride bikes to school. Everyone is more active than most Americans.

Hey Jake,
I'm in Hirotsuka sensei's Japanese 110 class, too. I missed the skype meeting :-( but I'm happy to see your pix. I wanted to ask you what's you favorite meal in Japan? Also, what kind of hobbies do you think are popular in Japan? Besides martial arts, ikebana and origami? :-) Are Japanese college students pretty much following mainstream Western culture or are they able to perserve their unique culture? Well, that's a lot of questions. Thanks for your time and enjoy Japan!!!!

Hi I'm Stephanie from Hirosuka Sensei's Japanese class. I wasn't able to attend when the class contacted you through skype. I was wondering a few things about Japan. I heard somewhere that the reason some Japanese songs have english in their lyrics is because they think it's cool. Is that true or is there a different reason? I was also wondering if there were Japanese people who are really into the pop culture of America? Because I know there are a lot of Japanese pop culture fans and I was curious if it went the same way toward America. I was also curious about their fashion such as if you were to walk down the street do you see people with modern clothes, but also people donning kimonos walking side by side? Thanks so much ^^

PS: That is the greatest used video game store I have ever seen.

Krisztina,
My favorite meal here is katsu curry (pork curry). The Japanese students here have many hobbies besides martial arts, etc. Many of them play traditional japanese instruments or modern instruments. There is pamplet I will give Hiro Sensei when i get back with all the clubs, there are at least 50. For the most part people here wear modern clothes, but with their own unique style. If you go to historical parts of the region you will see many kimonos as well though.

Stephanie,

Yes, the reason japanese songs have some english words in them is because for the most part they think english is cool. You wouldnt believe how many shirts they wear here that have english on them, but dont make any sense. As for interested in american culture, its mutual. There are many students just as fascinated with our culture as we are theirs.
